Food for
Education & Village Canteen
Nutrition initiative for Africa
Many children in Africa, especially those living in rural areas, did not have sufficient meals and nutrition due to the lack of food and ongoing conflicts. This results in children being physically weak and severely malnourished
From 1994 to present, MMA has
launched two feeding initiatives; one was Food for Education and the other was
Village Canteen. Both programs are currently in operation and are capable of
serving over 10,000 children on a monthly basis and 1,200 villages annually.
Food for Education is a school feeding program created as a response to malnutrition in Africa and the possibility of making African student more active and less immune to disease and infections. The program promotes both physical growth and mental development by providing free lunches to primary students and secondary students.
Village Canteen was created to help alleviate harsher conditions and inadequate facilities in African villages. Recent droughts and war have forced most villages to abandon farming, their households even their families. Internal conflicts have made them nomads and refugees.
MMA has created the Village Canteen initiative to improve nutrition and health among women and infants in poor African villages. After 14 years in service the program has been acknowledged by visiting supporters and evaluators as a sustainable development model for village feeding and has been implemented by many evangelical missions in Africa.
